Meet The Guys


Howard Hian is an award winning journalist, affiliated with the North American Travel Journalists Association, the International Travel Writers Alliance and Sutro Media. He was also a long-time member of the San Diego Hotel Motel Association and served as an allied representative on their Board of Directors.  In 2012 he was the San Diego hotel industry’s Allied Person of the Year.

He was recently appointed as a panel member of the City of San Diego’s Economic Development Division for a three year period.  Hian writes a monthly travel feature for The Military Press, a California semi-monthly journal with a circulation of 100,000. His column also appears online at Travel Savvy West, Real Travel Adventures and Roadtrips for Couples.

Hian has been playing poker for six decades. Over the past three years he has played 12,000+ hands of Omaha High/Low and 13,000+ of Hold ‘Em in home games, computer simulations, online and in casinos.  In February 2014, he launched an app, Poker Tutorial: Omaha 101 – Improve Your Game and/or Learn the Basics.  It can be found at iTunes/App Store or Google Play. The app has been downloaded in over 40 countries around the world.

Clayton Truscott is a freelance writer and marketing consultant. He was the senior writer and editor at Essential Travel Magazine from 2009 to 2012 and currently works as a freelance contractor in San Diego. He has an MA in Creative Writing from the University of Cape Town. His work has appeared in New Contrast Literary Journal,  Bartleby SnopesThe Surfer’s Journal, Zigzag, Surf Session, The Big Issue, Wave Length and others. His role as Captain Techie at Poker Resorts Reno is derivative of his marketing agency and editorial background. His years working for various publications and brands have allowed him to develop a diverse skill set on a both a practical and technical level. He is well-versed in social media and marketing technology, tools and trends, as well as video and web content management systems.

He honed his poker game as a teenager over summer holidays with friends and family, during long evenings around the living room table. While this has not helped him win any tournaments or big games outside his parents’ house, he remains a life-long fan of the game.
